Meet Dr. JB Kirby

Hello and thank you for visiting my website. I’m a Nurse Practitioner and college professor who started off as a firefighter and emergency medical technician when I was 18 years-old and I’ve been in healthcare ever since.
My life took a dramatic change in 2012 when I was diagnosed with rare disorder called Adhesive Arachnoiditis. This causes my nerves in my lower back to “clump” together. Every day is a roller coaster of bizarre symptoms that I have no control over.
I decided to reclaim control of my life and live my life to its fullest despite chronic pain. My bestselling book, Pain Management Decoded: Surviving and Thriving with Chronic Pain shares some of my most embarrassing moments trying to manage my new normal as a patient with chronic pain.
I heard from so many people who were also wondering why they were chosen to live life suffering from chronic pain. They were also relieved that they were not alone! Thus – The Voice of Chronic Pain was born!
When I’m not working or writing, I’m rescuing dogs, swimming at the YMCA, upcycling furniture, or spending time with my husband. I don’t eat red meat and I eat cereal for dinner on most nights!
Thanks again for stopping by ~ Dr. JB Kirby
